Food Stamp Looters Who Tried To Raid Walmart During EBT Outage Will Lose Benefits For A Year!

http://truthspasm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/carts.jpg

Governor Bobby Jindal… we salute you.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and his administration took steps late Wednesday to strip food stamp benefits from those who loaded up their shopping carts knowing they had insufficient funds in their Electronic Benefits Transfer accounts during a system failure in October.

As a result of the temporary outage, over 12,000 transactions in Louisiana showed non-sufficient funds once the system got back online and retailers were able to process the purchases, according to The Advocate.

The Oct. 12 computer glitch wasn’t limited to Louisiana. At least 17 states were affected, resulting in many shoppers overflowing their carts to take advantageof the outage.

Under Jindal’s new directive, recipients will lose benefits for one year, two years or permanently, depending on how many prior violations they have on their record.

These fiscal termites are lucky they aren’t ALL losing benefits permanently. The idea they thought they could stockpile and rip off goods because their EBT accounts were temporarily limitless shows they are openly willing to steal given the opportunity. Which makes them, by definition, thieves.

Way to go Jindal… you screwed the pooch on Cuchinelli but at least doing one thing right…. Jindal as the top of the Rep Governor’s assoc could have helped the VA race but didn’t and VA is going more and more Blue

  • Brian Scott

not a fan of Jindal but I applaud this decision…these individuals should have been prosecuted…every one of them knew what they were doing was a crime…

    • Margaret Smithson- Lomax

As well as the stores taking the money from the government. THEY knew it was illegal as well!

      • Matt Bryan

No, the individual needs to accept responsibility and quit making others do it on their behalf. That is why they need welfare to begin with.

      • Brian Scott

Walmart attempted to process the EBT cards as they were presented to them. The individuals knew their respective limits and made every effort to take advantage of the situation. This is about personal responsibility and personal accountability. Walmart lost tens of thousands of dollars so not really sure how you place blame on Walmart.

        • Travis Rupe

Walmart was aware of the national outage, those 2 stores chose to process the EBT cards when there was a national outage. Part of the responsibility needs to land on them as well. Those that abused the system should be held accountable as well. I wonder if those that over spent by a dollar or two will be punished the same as those who spent hundreds over their limit.

          • MarkM

So Travis, if someone robs your house then you’re partially to blame because you didn’t have adequate security measures in place, right?

          • Lana

I don’t think that is what Travis is saying. Retail stores have procedures in place to prevent something like this from happening. The fact is, Walmart Corporation chose to IGNORE those procedures and go ahead and let the shoppers get as much as they want. Those who work in a retail grocery store know how much the average customer spends; these people were raking up bills upwards of $600-700 each or more. Walmart could have prevented this from happening, they just chose not to. No different than watching someone walk in and take a television and do nothing about it. Guidelines are put into place for a reason, in the event something like this should happen. The only way your scenario would be true, MarkM, is if Travis DID have proper security measures and then enabled the robber by holding open his front door and helping the robber carry out his belongings. That’s what would have been the same thing.

          • Perry Merriel

I know that Walmart employees called corporate and CORPORATE told the employees to go ahead with the transactions. So yes WALMART needs to be held accountable too. Because they had the OK of Walmart.

          • falling321

The stores have already been held responsible! They are not going to receive payment for anything that was not covered by the EBT cards. They knew that when they approved the purchases, but they decided to protect their employees from injury during the riots that would have ensued had they attempted to limit these thugs to purchases of $50.

          • Denise McNanna

It didn’t just happen at Walmart. The system was down. Several stores attempted to contact the Feds. They could not get through. THese people would have caused a riot if they had been denied. The simple fact that they left full carts and walked out when the system was back on line shows they are thieves and bare the FULL responsibility.

          • Lana

Retail stores that are authorized to accept EBT cards don’t have to get in touch with the federal government in these situations. There are already guidelines in place should this happen. The stores where this happened did not follow the guidelines. Each customer should have been limited to a $50 purchase which is considered emergency rations. Had they followed the guidelines, none of this would have occurred. End of story. You can argue all you want to, but the recipients of the EBT cards were at fault, and so was the stores where this happened. The government should NOT have to pay the stores who did not follow guidelines.

          • falling321

The stores knew they wouldn’t get paid back, they thought the safety of their employees was more important than the money. It was highly likely that these thugs would have rioted if Walmart had refused to credit their cards with more than $50, when no limit was apparent. Look at the mess made of the store when it was announced that limits were showing up on the cards…do these people look like they respect anyone or anything?

          • Tammy S. Thiel

            Exactly!!!

          • falling321

Walmart did not have proper security measures in place to stop these people from rioting and probably trampling Walmart employees to death when they found out that their cards were NOT going to be accepted! It has happened when Walmart didn’t open their doors quickly enough for these thugs on Black Friday when they wanted to buy something for cheap…what makes you think it wouldn’t happen when they found out they might get something for FREE!? I do not blame Walmart at all…they were protecting their employees and letting the government sort it out later! Remember some of these people actually had some funds on their cards, they just chose to steal whatever they couldn’t pay for!

          • gypsey

If you blame others then you never fix the problem waiting for them to change.. Everyone must own their stuff so they can fix it…

          • Buster Wymer

            Mark.
            NO this is different…
#1 Walmart chose to take the chance.
#2 They gave unlimited credit to these people.
#3 They should have only given a limit of $50-$100
until the problem was fixed if they wanted to help.
            what you said was dumb.

          • MarkM

The moral of the story kids is : Stealing is o.k if someone gives you the opportunity. Got it.

          • Oline Wright

there was a standard where stores could allow purchases of up to $50 in cases of outages. The stores in question exceeded that standard.

          • Karen Stevens

MarkM, he may be one that is loosing his benefits. Be easy on him. NOT

          • Alice James

I bet you would volunteer to tell them that there is a limit on their stamps, and then take all the back lash, and maybe a riot because of it. Good job being ignorant Travis.

          • Neil Tarasoff

Smarten up, walmart is the 500# gorilla and nothing will happen to them! As it should be!

          • KWSmith

I agree. They should have denied the EBT and just dealt with the riots and damage to their property.

        • gypsey

Walmart could of called the number on the back of the card and recieved accurate info.. they were probably scared that the customers may riot or something…Or thought the GOV would pay..maybe they were in on it who knows…

          • Buster Wymer

It would be Unrealistic to call the number on the card for every one..
It would be realistic however to only give up to $100 limits.

        • Tammy S. Thiel

Walmart lost money booo hoooo! They knew better!! Yes these people knew better too but if Walmart lost money it’s their own dumn *** fault. LIke they didn’t freaking know.

      • falling321

Have you seen what happens in these stores when they attempt to keep these thugs from getting what they want? Watch the You Tube video’s of them trampling people to the floor and even killing a few as they fight over Black Friday sale items! Watch as young thugs run through stores as a group stealing everything that isn’t tied down! Do you really think that Walmart or any other store is going to try to tell a group of thugs that they CANNOT have what is in their shopping cart when their card says the funds are available? There would have been riots and people would have died and then we would be talking about lawsuits against Walmart for NOT letting them buy their crap, even knowing the cards were no good!

    • Linda Monroe

They will more than likely have to repay the amount they ripped off the store for as well as lose their benefits. Serves them right.

  • john henery

They should loose them for good, Also everyone who is on warfare and food stamps should be drug tested .

    • Redeemed

Didn’t know they were tight ….

    • James Jenkins

This would include some junior enlisted in the military. Who already are, but you were saying?

      • Chase Messer

Good then they should be held accountable by the UCMJ..

    • WMDACCHHILLE

HOW ABOUT CHA,RGING THEM WITH FRAUD AND LOCKING THEIR ASSES UP!!! HMMM…….LET ME PONDER THIS A MOMENT…………. WHAT’S LESS EXPENSIVE, PROVIDING PUBLIC DEFENDERS, HOUSING THEM IN JAIL OR CUTTING OFF BENEFITS!!! TOUGH CHOICE BECAUSE IF YOU CUT OFF BENEFITS, THEY HAVE ALREADY PROVEN THEY WOULD STEAL FROM THE GOVERNMENT,THEN I AM SURE THEY WOULD STEAL FROM YOU OR ME !!! LOCK THEIR ASSES UP!!! OR BETTER YET COMMUNITY SERVICE TO PAY RESTITUTION !!!

    • Neil Tarasoff

      Fully agree!

    • Buster Wymer

I agree except for those on disability.
There are People on disability who also get food stamps
as a side benefit and are not Directly on Welfare.
Those who are on Welfare Should be called into the office at random and must show up
on their scheduled date and time or loose benefits the same as failing their drug test.
also they should not be warned ahead of time of the test.

  • Bob Diehl

They should have been arrested as the criminals that they are

  • Edith Nash

it’s good for them! a thief will always take advantage of an opportunity when one becomes available.. so I think they should permanently lose benefits.. plus.. community service to repay every dime they took!!

    • Margaret Smithson- Lomax

And so will Walmart who knew good and well the EBT site was down..so does that make them a thief as well…should they have to repay the money GIFTED TO THEM for the groceries and be penalized 1 year to not take the EBT card..??? Just asking ..fair is fair. I don’t live in LA and I do not get Food Stamps…buy my own food.

      • LILYOFTHEVALLEY

No Margaret-Smithson blah blah blah…….Walmart had to ring them up to keep the peace. Walmart could not question their intentions–that would have caused a riot. Perhaps you are not aware of the reality of situations such as this when dealing with the public.

        • Travis Rupe

then why did every other Walmart in the USA NOT ring them up, only these two in LA?

          • LILYOFTHEVALLEY

Several Walmarts in LA and some in other states trusted customers with EBT cards. If you think Walmart saw an opportunity to defraud EBT here you are wrong. The onus of responsibility is with each individual EBT card holder. They made their choices to steal–some even got big screen television sets!!! Get a clue and learn from this that big brother is really watching every one of us now–so the stupid who called their relatives to come on down and load up the carts found out later that there was a consequence to their actions. If you hate Walmart — the stay out of Walmart and stop making excuses for the kind of people who would steal your last dollar from you–the dishonest mooching thieves who have lived on the taxpayers dime for several generations with zero effort to work and earn a living.

          • bo288

My Question is how did people buy Big TV’s on EBT anyways?

          • trippintwin

Some EBT cards are authorized for cash purchases instead of food purchases.

          • Darcy Kirkpatrick Cawood

It happened in 17 other states-read the article.

        • Kathryn

If they didn’t let people make unlimited purchases thousands of these worthless trash bags who are worthless to society and should prolly jump off a bridge and kill them selves wouldn’t have been flocking to walmart

          • Kathryn

With that being said I do receive Wic… And I would NEVER take advantage of a situation like that, that is horrible and those ppl give people like me a bad name I’m just going to school full time and working and hate that I feel like a total scumbag when I use my wic

          • Brian Hughes

“worthless trash bags who are worthless to society and should prolly jump off a bridge and kill them selves”

“With that being said I do receive Wic”

            Un-frikkin-believable.

          • Buster Wymer

            Kathryn.
            I am on disability.
I was collecting food stamps for a while and never took advantage neither.
I go to Produce auctions and buy produce to can on my own and I deer hunt with my son’s help and I can Deer meet as well.
I plan ahead for just such an emergency.
It is hard and some times you need help.
Do Not feel like a scum bag for needing help.
            You NEED it.
you are not sitting by doing nothing for your self.
you are trying but need a little help.
Things will get better for you some day and you will no longer need it.
            Hang in there kid!
            <3

        • Jersey 54

True..you know how they act!!!! like Savages….

        • Sue Long

They could have put a cap on the amount they could spend. I believe I heard other stores did this. Ultimately the people themselves are to blame because the took advantage of the situation, showing their true colors as thieves, but Walmart could have handled the situation better.

          • 600 Horses

Yes to a cap. Walmart has a hand in this. They know that these cards have a finite amount of funds available, for them to pretend that the cards are bottomless, is reprehensible.

      • Heather Clark

Thanks for letting us know you buy your own food! like that matters. Not everyone getting assistance is abusing the system. I am a single mom of 4 with a back injury and if I didn’t get assistance they wouldn’t eat..People that steal or take from the system give the ppl that really need it a bad rep.

        • Jersey 54

          Does your Husband work too?

        • Chase Messer

Shouldn’t of had so many damn kid if you couldn’t afford it.. how is that our fault?

          • Sue Long

Chase – don’t judge if you don’t know the whole situation. There are multiple scenarios that could have left her in the situation she’s in right now. For all you know she & her husband could have been living well & working hard for their 4 kids. She only said she was a single mother now – you don’t know if she was widowed or if her husband was a creep who left &/or abused her. And she said she has a back injury – maybe before she injured her back she was working f/t and able to provide for her kids. Stop being such a jerk. She probably already feels bad not being able to give her kids the best – she doesn’t need rude, insensitive people like you making it worse.

          • Chase Messer

I really do not care, I am just tired of getting taxed out the ass (thousands per month) to pay for other peoples kids.

          • Brian Hughes

Good for you Chase. Then when some day you or someone you care about finds yourself in Heather’s position, I guess we won’t have to worry about you accepting any help.

          • Chase Messer

            You are damn right!

          • Buster Wymer

            We shall see.

          • Buster Wymer

            Brian… we shall see then.
he may say no but just wait.

          • Buster Wymer

            Well said Sue….
some people are not very understanding and are VERY narrow minded.
I know women who are in the same boat as you have described.
I also know some who do Abuse the system.
Having kids every few years to get more.
You have to take each case separately.
            Judge lest ye be judged.!

          • Oline Wright

Has it occured to you she may have had those kids before her back was injured? Or are you independently wealthy and not depending on your health and job for your food and basic living needs? So tell me if you work and your place of business closes down are you prepared to be able to support whatever family you have on what you will no longer be earning? How about if you have an accident where you are not eligible for compensation?

      • Emily Hinkle Beustring

Is Wal Mart required to know your credit card balance, as well?

        • Buster Wymer

          Emily
questions like yours are not intelligent.
No one said they should have known the amount on their cards.
we are only saying that for safety reasons to keep this sort of thing
from happening they should have put a limit on them.
          As for your dumb question…
it is assumed that if you have a credit card them you may have a large
          limit.
also you do have a credit limit on your card and if you exceed it then it will decline you card when swiped at the checkout,

  • Bitchyfrontdeskclerk

I want to know what the heck the store was thinking.? I blame them as much if not more than I do the shoppers.

    • Redeemed

The Store goes by the balances shown on the card … how are they to know that there was insufficiency?

      • Bitchyfrontdeskclerk

wasy, the min. the card machines when down should have been the min,. they only took cahs until things were up and running.. yes, these people were way wrong, BUT so was the store.. If I check someone into my hotel and they say “i will pay you tommorrow” and than walk and don’t pay,, It is MY fault as much as their

        • Zexaal

that’s exactly what happened around here. When the cards went down, every store went Cash/Credit Card only. So that’s why I don’t get why they could have gotten away with it unless the store was all “Okay, we trust you have enough. Go right ahead”

        • Matt Bryan

Your username suits you. Bitch, bitch, bitch, but you don’t say anything helpful or corrective. Try taking responsibility once in awhile and not passing your poor performance off as the fault of others.

      • Matt Bryan

You must have a card or be oblivious to how credit and balancing your own checkbook works.

      • Buster Wymer

any one with a third grade education would know that you wouldn’t get $1000-$2500 food stamp card. and that you cant buy a big screen tv with it.
There should have been a temporary small limit on them till the system was restored….$100 Max. would have been more than enough for any family till then

    • Charlene Ayers Campbell

The stores should have checked and could have, but the stores didn’t make the low life Thieves load up carts!!!

      • Bitchyfrontdeskclerk

no.. the store just let them get all that food without first making sure they could pay for it.. yes, these people are to blame, BUT so is the store.. they are not innocent victims.

        • Leslie Zimmerman

the stores made a very poor judgment call by letting them do this but what happened to holding people accountable and living honestly?? why is it always someone else’s fault but not the people who actually do wrong?

    • Eva Davis

Perhaps Wal-Mart was thinking that some of these people might actually have a need for food? Maybe they believed the system would be right back online and they thought better to keep from going hungry. Maybe thought people who were being taken care of would be honest. Evidently Wal-Mart should think that everyone on food stamps is a crook and treat them as such…?

      • Eva Davis

Perhaps they were afraid of having a flash mob attack their store because the food stamp benefiters would scream racism, sexism or scream that it was intentional by the gov’t in order to starve them to death. Lord everyone has an excuse for their bad behavior.

    • jimnbubba

I can’t believe all these peole wanting to put the blame on someone else, sounds like Obama has his monkeys well trained

  • Bill Davis

What the hell does Walmart care–they got their damn money anyway! Screw Jindal.

    • Guest

Hmm…sounds to me as if you’re a bit defensive about the situation, which most believe points to guilt. And IF any store did get paid, the point still remains that funds were not, in reality, available. So did the money come from pools of money that were needed elsewhere? I believe there should be a punishment for anyone who took advantage of this “glitch” to selfishly scam the states, stores and peers who may need immediate help but cannot get because of a sudden shortage of money as the stores needed to “get their damn money.”

    • tessaprn

Don’t think they did, Good for Jindal. All states should do the same.

    • Matt Bryan

Sorry to hurt your feelings. Jindal did the right thing.

    • LILYOFTHEVALLEY

Bill Davis – this is not about Walmart. The State has to pay for the groceries. Does that make it ok? Is it acceptable that 12,000 EBT cardholders spent as much as they could because the system was in error? They called their buddies to come on down and help themselves! They are thieves and the State has to account for the money that they had no right to.

      • Joni Fortney

Why does everyone keep saying Walmart got their money. They DID NOT, every story I read said WM had to eat that money. Sure, they can go after the trash that did it, but will they? Good for this guy to stand up to the trash and say SORRY you lose. Its about time someone in the government puts their foot down, and say enough is enough.

        • Chase Messer

wal mart will get their money by raising prices on the goods so that regular people like you and I end up paying. There is no such thing as a free lunch, someone always pays. And it is always passed down to the consumer.

  • Grizzly907

Crack these snap card savages down. #snapcardsavages

  • Joe Mosley

Good.I’m glad to see Jindal take this action.Of course, all of the leeches and bottom feeders will scream Racism.

  • Zexaal

Not saying they’re in the right….but most stores didn’t accept EBT doing the outage….so…..yeah. What made Walmart so special?

  • Rosemary Richards

hmm, the reason for all this in the first place is because they didn’t want to delay that healthcare bill. because they knew it was ready to go. OOPS my bag! I guess Obama should have signed the bill to delay the Affordable care act. Because alot of the people that voted for him just lost their Handout!!!

  • Margaret Smithson- Lomax

I think the stores should take some of the Blame…as well. THE stores knew that the EBT SITE was down and MOST during the down time of limitless buying the retailer was well aware they should NOT TAKE THE EBT CARD. So is the government going to pay the stores WHO ILLEGALLY TOOK MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT FOOD STAMP PROGRAM..? WHY is always the Poor made to look like the Thief as you call it. Looks like the WALMART that even announced over the Intercom that the LA EBT SITE was NOW UP and running (and lots of baskets of food were just left sitting) proves they were well aware this was a crime,. BUT THEY are Big Corporate Business…I just don’t get it the people are penalized when the stores could have prevented it…????

    • Matt Bryan

You are uninformed. Stores have no way to know what your credit limit is, as it varies from user to user. The USER is solely responsible for managing their money. Idiots breed idiots. That is the cycle of things. If the Government did not help there would be less homeless and less babies born each year. More babies equals more money from the government and more child welfare crimes.

      • Vanessa Nettles

stores can find out your limit when they swipe your card and if the system was not operating right than they should have followed proto call and only allowed people to use $50 dollars per person that’s what they were suppose to do emergency situations and they failed to the cashiers knew these people didn’t have thousands of dollars on their food stamp cards they deal with ebt users every day and when they seen the way these people were behaving they should have closed down the stores like the rest of the stores did I am not saying the ebt card users weren’t wrong because they were they abused the system but don’t sit here and act like walmart didn’t take this as a chance to benefit as well , people are so miserable its crazy you all are trying to act high and mighty but knowing if you had the chance you would do it too

        • Matt Bryan

My dear, I am no thief. I am a man. I work hard for the things that I have. I don’t beg, or steal and rarely have I borrowed. Those that have not either work harder to get it, or play the poor me game. Most on welfare play poor me. Let someone else pay for me.Let a family sponsor me at Christmas and give my children gifts. LOL

        • WMDACCHHILLE

A LOT OF THOSE SAME CASHIERS ARE RUNNING THEIR OWN CASH BACK SCAMS ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!! BTW SOMEONE WORKING A REGISTER AT WALMART(NO DISRESPECT INTENDED , AND BY NOMEANS ALL OF THEM) PROBABLY DON’T CARE ENOUGH TO WORRY ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT GETTING TAKEN ,THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE FIRST ONES TO CALL THEIR FRIENDS AND SAY HEY YOU KNOW WHAT!! DAMN MOST CAN’T COUNT CHANGE WITHOUT THE REGISTER!!! IF THE CARD GOES THROUGH KOOL!!

        • Chase Messer

nope, If I found a wallet FULL of cash I would turn it in with every dime… Not all of us jump at the chance to fuck someone over.

    • LILYOFTHEVALLEY

Girl, you need to stop making excuses for people who would just as soon run you over on the way to get “freebies”…..I think now, you have exposed yourself as another EBT card owner, Section 8 home resident, welfare recipient and what’s the other thing….oh that’s right….can you say stupid?

    • Sue Long

You already stated that the fact that the carts were left when the system was back up proves they were aware this was a crime – that is EXACTLY why the people are being penalized. I do agree that Walmart could have reacted to the outage better, though. I believe I heard somewhere that other locations let people use their cards but put a cap on the amount they could spend so it wouldn’t get out of hand like it did at these locations. That would have been the best way to go so that people needing food could still get some but the system wouldn’t be abused. (At least not to this degree) I applaud the fact that these thieves are being penalized – and as others have said, they should count themselves lucky that it’s only a loss of benefits. They deserve jail time.

  • Matt Bryan

I absolutely love this. Rampant food stamps and government assistance is already theft of the American people, so trying to steal even more from those that look to support them deserves stiff sanction. Take a look in the mirror and determine where you stand as a Man or Woman.

    • Lisa Bennett

Excuse me but I happen to receive food stamps and I’m no loser or criminal or trailer trash, I worked all my life, 3 jobs at one time even for about a year, I just happen to have a special needs child who is autistic and I am a single parent, his dad decided to cheat on me and run off with the other girl after beating me and my son up, I don’t have anyone to take care of my son while I go to work so I have to stay home with him and I am very grateful that we have the benefit and priveledge of receiving food stamps so we can eat. My point is that it’s not right for all you people to stereotype people on food stamps or welfare, yes there are those that do take it for granted, those who fraud the system, but not everyone who gets food stamps is trash…and I sure as hell paid into the system enough when I was working that I don’t feel guilty for getting the help now when I need it. I don’t get cash aide, just food stamps so I can feed my kids. I think it’s disgusting what these people did but please don’t judge all of us like that…

      • Matt Bryan

About 5% actually need assistance. The rest defraud the system every chance they get. We were discussing those. Defensive much?

        • Guest

Is that 5% based on a study?? just curious…I’m not defensive sweety, just opinionated and outspoken. I do not condone what these people did, it was selfish and wrong and criminal, but I also don’t condone everyone thinking that everyone who is on food stamps is just druggy trailer trash, too lazy to work, milking the system for all they can, it’s not right to judge someone like that just because they need some assistance providing for their family. I have no intention of offending anyone here, I just wanted to say that just because some welfare recipients are that way doesn’t mean all are, Don’t judge the fact that they are on welfare, judge the fact that they are dishonest people. Receiving gov assistance doesn’t make someone a bad person, being deliberately dishonest and robbing the very people who are trying to help you makes them a bad person. I Pray the day never comes when you might need some assistance from the gov, I pray that you have all you need for your family as long as you live and never have to deal with any unexpected circumstances that might put you in a position to need help and may you never know the feeling of being judged and stereotyped based on the actions of others. Have a nice day…Respectfully..

      • SHUTUP

You should probably cut back on your internet or cell phone internet, and stop browsing and commenting on sites like this, since you have no money or daycare.

  • Matt Bryan

What ever happened to personal pride and ownership of one’s decisions? Why must we take responsibility for those that refuse to help themselves. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. My parents have each been married three times and I traveled from town to town changing schools often. I am a man. I have had ups and downs. I put my family first, even if that means taking a crappy job to pay my own damn bills!! This does not include the 5% of the population that actually needs part time assistance. Botom line, is shut up and be a man or woman by supporting your family and sweating a little.

  • bralinshan

These people are worse than termites. Their entire lives are spent reproducing with anything that moves and they game the system. In the end, the joke is all on them. Because those that give NOTHING but take EVERYTHING? They lose their dignity…
And when you lose your dignity, you behave just like these people.

  • Vanessa Nettles

MAYBE EVERYONE IN THE WHITE HOUSE, CONGRESS , COURT SYSTEMS AND BANKS AND WALL STREET AND ANYBODY ELSE WHO GETS GOVT HANDOUTS AND UNLIMITED SPENDING ACCOUNTS GET DRUG TESTED SINCE EVERYONE WANTS TO KEEP TALKING ABOUT DRUG TESTING PEOPLE ON WELFARE THE PEOPLE THAT GET THESE LITTLE AS CRUMBS EACH MONTH THAT IS NOT EVEN A PERCENTAGE OF WHAT THESE ASSHOLES SPEND IN A DAY YOU PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP AND WORRY ABOUT BIGGER PROBLEMS

    • LILYOFTHEVALLEY

You are truly ignorant and part of the reason why this country is divided. Learn some responsibility, stop living off of taxpayers.

      • Vanessa Nettles

I am ignorant …why because I think that these assholes in control of the country spend all this money and can go bankrupt then get a fucking bailout but in the mean while people that have went and fought for nothing other than oil and opium plants should come back home to being homeless and hungry while the govnt is sending money and food to the same people they were over there killing ….and fyi I don’t live off taxpayers I am a taxpayer I work 40+ a week and pay my own way thank you very much but I know what it is like to be hungry and not have anything its fucked up and until you are in those shoes yourself you shouldn’t judge people ….i cant wait for the day when we all have to answer for our mistakes and when god asks you why you were so hateful to people you don’t even know what will you say ?

        • LILYOFTHEVALLEY

You are delusional. This country is broke because of over 50 years of multi-generational women who live off the state welfare system, never bothering to raise their kids to get out of the trap. The people who hold EBT cards and knowingly and willfully stole from both Walmart and the Government are these same people. You are one of the millions of irresponsible people who want to blame the government or blame the corporations for everything, once again, the mindset of the welfare set.

    • Lorraine Lynn Gilmer

Little crumbs?? OMG are you serious woman? So many of the people I see whipping out an EBT card are driving nice cars, their kids are wearing the most expensive of everything, the women have their sculptured nails, gold everywhere and they are not dressed at all like that might even be close to struggling. It’s supposed to be a hand up not a friggin hand out! And yes, I think anyone getting any type of welfare should take drug tests. I had help from the state when I was pregnant with both my kids. But I got my damn tubes tied after the 2nd kid. If you can’t feed them, don’t have them! Crumbs…jesus you are an idiot.

      • Vanessa Nettles

Im a idiot really so when you were getting help how would you like if people called you a lazy whore that only made babies to get a hand out ? you wouldn’t right well that’s all im saying people need to stop being so quick to judge others they don’t know what the situation is . I agree with you some people do abuse the help but it is not everybody I don’t like how people are on this blog just flat out putting everyone that gets help down …. some people have worked hard all their life and deserve a little fucking help… I agree that some people need to get drug tested but I also think that these people that are spending milions of dollars everyday need to be tested as well and they need to be investigated like they are trying to do people that get food stamps ….and yes 600 a month when you have three kids and your self is crumbs compared to spending 5000 for dinner and a fucking limo

        • Richard Helm

First Vanessa, the people who spend that much money earned it themselves. 2nd, the reason you see things like what happened at Wal Mart is that the Democrats who passed such laws did not build in methods to deal with fraud. After all, in their heads, it is not their money so why care.

A sound analysis of each party kind of goes like this. Democrats are not long range thinkers or planners and as such the programs they design are meant to last for the present moment only. Republicans on the other hand do not have spinal columsn and for the most part refuse to stand up for themsleves.

With that said, the way you keep the government doing things a little more correctly is to force hem to pass legislation that states the benefits to “We the People” in any legislation must be a certain percentage of the overall expenditures. Further when making budget adjustments, they must first decrease operating costs before touching the benefits to “We the People”. Too often when making budget cuts, they go after the benefits to “We the People” and leave their salaries an benefits alone. That must stop.

Something else we could do to improve overall government operations is to modify the Primary rules as follows:
On our ballots when we choose who will represent our indivdual parties there is one choice that must be on all ballots and that is NONE OF THE ABOVE. If NONE OF THE ABOVE wins, that party must put a whole new slate together and the incumbent is effectively out of the picture. That is term limits our way.

It is time that all politicians understand it is government for the people by the people and that bad performance and lies lose you your job.

  • Brian Scott

Travis all I know is I spoke with a Walmart regional manager, who lives in our neighborhood, who said initially they were unaware and processed the EBT cards as they would any other day…

  • Darryl Bridges

Just another example of mean spirited republicans taking advantage of poor people!!!

    • mrrogers100

And I guess it was OK for those people to take advantage of the system? If we stopped everyone that takes advantage of and defrauds the system, we may actually be able to afford to rebuild this country to the greatness it used to be!

  • Doot

I can’t believe they found a register open at Walmart, everytime I go to Walmart there are lines upon lines waiting for the cashiers to man their post. I hate going to Walmart just for that reason. I am from La.

  • Mark Eldridge

No.. you mean they might have to get a job?

  • swtredhen

KUDOS TO BOBBY JINDAL….ITS ABOUT TIME GOVERNMENT STARTED REALIZING THE ONLY WAY TO STOP CORRUPTION IS TO PUNISH THOSE THAT ATTEMPT IT…GOVERNMENT INCLUDED! I agree, they should be prosecuted…it’s the same as stealing!

  • bertasis

I totally agree with the Gov. decision.

  • jimmy jack james

Make em eat sheiot for a year.

  • Nanci Alley

Good this MUST happen, boy are the blacks ever going to be pissed at this new step. That means they will have to get off of their lazy dead asses & go to work! WE THE PEOPLE ARE TIRED of paying for them to get assistance & then they just go and abuse the system! Did anyone notice that the states were all “RED” during the outage & the vast majority was of the African flavor? From the video’s posted I did not see but 1 vanilla flavored one in the whole group!

  • mrrogers100

The Obama administration will overturn this directive and probably increase the handouts.

    • Chase Messer

You are probably right about this.

  • Limbchicken

Something had to be done. Now are the children going to suffer because of the greed of their parent(s). We always get stuck between a rock and a hard place. Maybe it would be better if they made the perps pay it back with some public works like highway cleanup etc.

  • BIg A smooth

Fantastic, next we start drug testing them.

  • PJParks

I would toss them in jail. Every last one of them.

  • Jack Burgin Jr

Those who would abuse a safety net like this, Deserve to loose the benefits such as this, et alone they should be LOCKED UP. This is why some wish to end safety nets like this, due to ASSHOLES that do this crap.

  • LClark

Ok, just to clarify why this is NOT Wallmart’s fault. When you pay for your groceries, they ask you cash or credit. Your options at this point is to hand them cash or run your credit card. The cashier will not ask you if it is a Master Card, a VISA, Discover, etc. So they cashiers did not ask “Is that a food stamp card?”, and there is no monitor standing beside the machine to see if you are using a food stamp card. So, you swipe the card and the machine does the rest, if it show there were available funds, there is nothing to tip the cashier off that it was an error and “Whala” Free groceries. I think it is time as a society to stop blaming everyone else for mistakes or to try and find a reason that responsibilities do no lie with an individual.

  • roadrashes1 .

I agree that restitution and/ or punishment should be made by all, but what if people only went over by 10,20,30,or 80 dollars? I have worked at the local DSS and we are not timely with our paperwork nor with updating account ledgers. Repayment should be made just like people who owe the IRS or Unemployment money. Walmart allowed the practice, employees were directed by their corporate managers. What is their punishment? Nothing, of course. However, banning these low income people for one year or more will prevent them from feeding their families. Aww, too bad, you say?? People who experience desperate socio-economic situations do desperate things. Hence, the Walmart fiasco. Just remember that these type of people will not be stealing from Walmart next time. Desperate people do desperate things. Remember that when you read about people breaking into resident homes in your neighborhood, robbing people at the bus stop and holding up your local 7-11, etc.

  • gypsey

Good they are just not honest and deserve the penalty …sorry for the children at the food pantry or maybe they will sell their i phones and big screen TVs….So they can eat..

  • lori

why is anyone blaming walmart? Did they go and pick up the EBT cardholders and bring them to the store in order to commit the crime? Those people chose to go because they heard there was a loophole that they could take advantage of. like flies find the one hole in the screen.

  • Neil Tarasoff

Karma is a bitch, society slime! Go hungry!

  • mims97

Yea, Bobby. About time someone stands up for us tax paying, hard working, mortgage paying, school tuition paying, medical insurance paying people. I’m sick of paying for freeloaders.

  • Heather

I use to be a cashier for Walmart back in 2007 and I would have people come through every month ansd spend 400-500$ a transaction on groceries and when the reciept would print out it would show their remaining balance and I had people whose balance for food was still over $700. So for all the cashier knew those people could of had that much money in benifits. I feel that it is the responsibility of the person with the card to know what their limit is. The entended to take what they could when they realized they had more than they were suppose to. I feel they should have lost benifits completley and possibly serve jail time depending on the amount of money they went over. Theft is theft no matter what the case. When someone puts a phony check in their bank account and it turns out to be a scam, even though the person did not know it was a scam, they are responsible for that check. Like I said stealing is stealing no matter the case.

  • Tyler Martin

These people knew what they were doing was wrong, they did it anyways, now they are paying the price. They should have been more responsible. Now it’s their fault if them or their children do not have any food. Facts are facts. If you do the crime, you should be willing to do the time. Even if Walmart did know about the glitch and did nothing to stop the transactions, the blame still falls to the people who bought the groceries. They knew what their limit was, yet they exceeded it because they thought they could get something for free. Food Stamps are a privilege, so people should treat it with respect. I have had to use them before, and we never got much from them. As long as we had a roof over our heads and enough food to get by for the time being, then we were fine. It’s people like this that give others a bad name.

  • nodramaqueens

Ignorance is not an excuse. The welfare recipients knew that what they were doing was wrong. They made a conscious decision to try and get away with stealing. It didn’t work, now they need to face the consequences of their poor choices. I do not believe that benefits will be cut off for dependent children, so the defrauders may still receive benefits and food stamps for the kids. Walmart should just have to individually sue each recipient that committed the fraud and get a judgment against them. IF these people ever work, then Walmart can recoup any losses through wage garnishment.
Shame on these people who stole. It is a shame that so many of our citizens feel entitled to a certain level of lifestyle, but they want OTHER PEOPLE to provide that to them for FREE.

  • Leslie Krochta

They all should lose their benefits, they are thieves. And they are not being treated as such. If any normal Americans would Rob a store we would be in jail but no not these people they are getting a slap on the hand. This isn’t right give it to bed who reall rreally need it. Like people that are working but are having a hardttime making it still. Single moms, disabled people, the elderly, and none of this giving to the illegals like here in Pennsylvania.

  • DKveragas

Next up: Lawyers file class action civil rights suit against Jindal over loss or food stamps. Pure racism lawyers charge.

  • Ken Campbell

They should lose their benefits for life. To repay kindness with theft is evil.

  • Jean Nelson

I am a fan of Jindal and applaud this decision. I feel bad for the children who have to suffer due to the stupidity of their parents. I hope the parents will find some backbone and find a way to honestly earn income and make their children their priority. It will be a rough wake up call. The parents are lucky they didn’t get hauled off to jail for theft. They knew what they were doing.

    • Diggsc

You clearly haven’t seen the size of most of the kids who have parents on food stamps.

  • Brenda Burdette Crotts

GREAT !!!! Hope the other 16 States do the same !! That is STEALING from the very taxpayers that pay this in the first place. It’s about time someone started looking out for US !!!

  • w. van

The stores do hold some responsibility here . They made the decision to allow “more then a reasonable purchase”. However the people buying the food do hold the majority of the responsibility and in my opinion should completely loose their food stamps all together . They knew exactly what they were doing . I feel like anyone that spent $100 more then their monthly amount should be given the opportunity to repay , the ones that way over spent should loose their benefits. Anyone who truly needs them would never had risked their “only food source”.

    • Diggsc

The stores hold NO responsibility. They are not in the business of policing moral actions, and would have been sued if they had not allowed people to purchase whatever they wanted.
The only people responsible are the dirtbags who loaded their carts up hoping to steal food.

  • Karen Sherry Brackett

They should be sentenced to community service instead. Their children can not help what their idiot parents do and they should not go hungry as punishment.

    • Diggsc

You ever see the kids whose parents are on food stamps? They aren’t going hungry, believe me.

  • Oline Wright

What I want to know is what happens to those who were only over by a few dollars?

    • Diggsc

What’s wrong with staying within your budget, especially when the budget is coming straight out of the pockets of working people?

  • Jo Parker

its all about greed and dishonesty….thats sums it up

  • Leslie Zimmerman

The reason some people are like this is because they never have to suffer any
consequences!!!! they will probably sue the government for hardship or
some such injustice they believe they are facing. I have busted my butt,
making next to nothing, going without, and getting through college, all with a
child and home to pay for and never collected government benefits. It’s not
easy but people need to take responsibility for their lives and if they don’t
like it then do something about it!! I don’t want to hear how hard it is
because believe me, I KNOW! anything is possible if you put hard work and
effort into it and just figure it out which I see every day that a lot of
people don’t want to do. Hell, the government will pay for them to go to
school!! People can’t work they have
kids all this stuff, but none of them have trouble buying their prescription
pain medicine every month or paying for their cell phone with data plan or cars nicer than mine, to me that is a total WTF. I see this at work every day and it saddens
me. There are cases where it is needed but for every one of them, there
are 9 that it’s not needed. There are people on here saying they can’t
work, have injuries what have you, if you truly do, I’m sorry and you do need
the help, with that being said, I have seen people have every test under the
sun and not a thing wrong but they insist there is and that they can never work a day in
their lives. I guess I’m not so much mad as I feel it’s pathetic and feel
sorry for them. no self respect. no integrity and feeling of self worth to want better. So yea, those who took advantage and look like sorry losers and will lose their benefits, I have little
sympathy. sorry about your luck, next time be an honest member of society
and do the right thing. I have found in my life that it really isn’t that
hard to stay out of jail and live an honest life!!

  • Diggsc

Anyone who is on food stamps and isn’t disabled is a thief, stealing from working Americans. Why would anyone be surprised that given the chance to be even bigger thieves, they took it?

  • Diggsc

Given the chance to act like a decent human being in thanks to the millions of hard-working Americans who pay for their food stamps, these people instead acted like animals. You can bet your next 200 paychecks that every one of them is an Obama supporter. Hope and Change, Baby! Hope. And. Change.
    Oh, and Theft.
